Our Customary & Banquet : 8 Nov 2008 

Venue : Selayang Palace Restaurant

I was blessed to have a great wedding banquet. I would like to say the whole event was so successful that as I recalled back now, it was a really sweet memory and enjoyable event that I will remember for life.

That evening, Bibi and I was almost late after the make up session, the weather was nice, if not, Jalan Kuching could be very congested and we would be stucked in the road. By the time we reached the restaurant, it was already almost 7pm. We rush to the changing room to prepare to welcome guest. By the time I walked up to staircase, I saw two beutiful and shining woman, they are none other than my mother and my mother in law, both dressed with nice gown and look so much like celebrity. Wow!

And all my helper are busy around, receptionist are all ready to welcome guest, and my MC ken, program manager ZhenPing and my two DJ PingSan and ZeWen, my video man QiaoJun were all working hard to make the program run well later.

I have 2 screens to project our slideshow and video, but suddenly one of the screen was not working at first. But miracously, the screen started to function well again, my heart was pounding so much, because all our effort will be ruin if the screen was not functioned.

Around 815pm, Ken started to welcome guest and projected our wedding photo slide show. We marched in with the love song - The Gift. After the first course started, the screen projected our grow up until fall in love photo slideshow to tell our love story.

After the second march in, we went up to stage for champagne ceremony and then we thanked our parents for loving us, as well as presented the present to them. I can tell that my mom was really touched and happy that night, but frankly speaking, I really thank her for what she did for me and loving me.

As usual, we toss with guest “Yam Seng” and taken photo with our relatives and friends. One of the greatest achievement we all have is that we manage to avoid any karaoke requested by the guest, we have a full list of event and Ken and ZhenPing were trying very hard from stoping anyone to go up to sing. When we got out and heard that the singing was so bad from other banquet next to us, we knew our decision was made absolutely right!

As the event was close to the end, we stand by at the door to thank guest. Last but not least, took photo with NYSC member, the happiest moment to play with a bunch of crazy people.

The event was successfully completed around 11pm and my brothers helped me to clear the stage and uninstalled the banner and make sure we left safely. They really my true brothers!

I was touched really by the true friendship from friends and my brothers whom helped me so much in this wedidng event from morning till night. I guess the precious gift I got is not the angpow for sure, but the love and blessing by all the true friends and relatives. And this event made me understood that we are loved and supported by many friends!

Customary (接新娘和请茶)

Morning 8:00am, all my brothers “heng dai” gathered at my house and prepare for the JieXinNiang battle later. We all are look like underground society member with our dress code - white shirt, blue jeans, black coat with Sunglasses. Coooolll !

We set off at 830 to my wife’s house. Just before we going to leave, I suddenly realize a problem, how come we only have 5 cars in total? We miscounted and we need one more car (because every thing need to be double). Luckily we found out before leaving. High way was smooth and weather was nice!

This time round, every one of us need to participate, but the question is, we have 9 person, if any one us drop the sweet, we need to restart the whole thing. With only less than 30 cm of toothpick, we need to be careful for not kissing each other when passing the sweet. haha.

Fifth Obstacle: Throw a doll and follow exactly the posture of the doll

The first posture is easy, but the second is diffucult as the head has to be lean down and open the leg wide, this task was given to ZeWen as he is the TaeKwonDo black belt, nothing can beat him. So finally we got all the obstacle completed.

Of course, the normal process before getting in the bride room is to bribe the sisters with angpow.

Though I do not sleep much on previous night, but I still need to wake up earlier. This day we need to go restaurant to set up the back drop banner which designed by Bibi, decorate the bridal car, and as well as preparing food for the dinner that my mom organize for her and my friend whom will be coming to celebrate “bachelor night”.

But the problem came when we already got to the restaurant and going to set up the banner, but the audio system people came to tell us they need to install something, and therefore we need to delay our thing. With some frustration, we went back home and back 2 hours later, I could not be there as I need to bring the car for decoration. Therefore Bibi ask her two brother in law, her sis and Yee Hao’s help to set up the banner at 5pm.

In fact, before this, Bibi and I had some arguement regarding the back drop setting, we had noticed the restaurant back drop was ugly and we decided to do something about it. But the question is how to? Paper cut, with baloon? sound simple but tedious job…then Mei Yi came out an idea of printing a big banner and putting our photo on it. After negotiation, the price is reasonable, but the installation is another question. But I would like to say, though all of us do not have much experience, we have overcome another big problem of designing, printing and installing the banner finally.  And the effect and results was good, it is very presentable and made the banquet grand.

After that I went to decorate the car for 接新娘。

At night, my mom and her friends have prepared a lot of food to celebrate with me. Though I do know most of them, but I am happy that they came to celebrate with me and especially do all these thing for my mom.

 After eating the tang yuan, it was almost 12pm. I was totally exhausted and tired, after cleaning up and ready for bed at around 1am. Yes, tonight I suppose can have a better sleep than last night.

But suddenly, something came into my mind. As I going to give a thankyou speech tomorow in the wedding banquet, some thoughts came in about how to thank my mother and other helpers, and I quickly woke up and wrote down the content, I practiced it again in case I forgot. With that, I could only sleep by 2am, but thank God that I could sleep quite well and woke up 6:30am the following day.

Bibi and I back to KL on wednesday night to prepare our wedding customary and banquet. We both are quite nervious about the day event as many things still have not settle yet.

On thursday, we both went to bridal house to get the gown and jacket, and also the photo album as the earlier one had a little crack that the bridal house need to be repaired. Then we need to go to selayang palace restaurant again to discuss about the detail.

We both like the ball room feeling of the wedding banquet, but because the hall belongs to different management from restaurant, we had a hard time to use the audio system to test out our stuff as the audio guy wasn’t there most of the time.

We also have not concluded the number of table also, is 55 enough? or 57? and the restaurant told us the most they can do is 55 table ..lots of arguement here and there.

After the long winded discussion with the restaurant, i also need to meet my group of brother “heng dai” in Cheras Old Town (our Lao Di Fang for wed discussion) whom gave me idea how to organize the banquet and also how to run the program. Zhen Ping and Ken’s comments and ideas are very important to me because they are the guy who run the show that day. Wei Hao,Qiao Jun and ZeWen also helping to provide ideas and comments about things to be careful of.

The whole conversation lasted about 3 hours, more and more things need to beware of. Every one was exhausted but enjoyable. Back to home, I show ZeWen the sequence of playing the video and song and with chit chating at my home until 2am, I started to get to bed around 3, but i couldn’t sleep at all, is it due to the strong Old Town coffee? or because many wedding stuff still troubling me? Or the conversation with ZeWen about future and career? all play apart that made me sleepless, I really wish the day of Nov 8 could pass sooner, of course I am sure i will enjoy the process, but now, I need to relax myself to trust all my brothers and other helpers to help me to complete the task.

Then, I watched HK series - MoonLight resonance (家好月圆）until my mom woke up at 6am then i go to sleep again. What a sleepless night before my wedding customary! I guess may be many other could have gone through the same thing as I
